Pat Shingleton is one of six children born to Hab and Shirley Shingleton of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. He was educated at Gannon University in Erie and Point Park College in Pittsburgh. He has been active in the broadcasting field for 27 years, presenting the weather for WBRZ - Channel 2 in Baton Rouge since 1981. As Chief Forecaster for the station, Pat prepares and brings his own style of weather to the 5,6 and 10pm editions of News 2 Louisiana. Pat has traveled to many places while pursuing his career. He began as weathercaster at KQTV in St. Joseph, Missouri. He then moved to WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge before relocating to WPXI-TV, the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Since his return to Baton Rouge in 1981, Pat has taken on many responsibilities in addition to his position as a weathercaster for WBRZ. He is the president of Pat Shingleton Production and has produced and distributed various shows such as "WePlay Baton Rouge", "The Fifth Quarter", "Hotline After Dark", and "Santa Tracks." He is a member and associate member of various professional organizations such as the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. In addition, he is a member of the National Association of Television Program Executives. Pat has been recognized by the Louisiana Associated Press for his weather presentations and was selected the best in the state in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2001, and 2002. In conjunction with his position as a weathercaster for WBRZ, Pat is involved in many community activities. He is chairperson for several programs including Pat's Coats for Kids. pat has produced, hosted numerous videos in support of a variety of fundraising endeavors. Pat is the spokesperson for "Pat's Coats for Kids" and Our Lady of the Lake Children's Miracle Network Broadcast. He developed the concept for assisting the St. Vincent de Paul Society's Community Pharmacy, creating Fill a Prescription for the Needy™. He originated The St. Patrick's Day Parade, the Wearin' of the Green in 1986 and remains as parade coordinator. Pat also has been instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for worthwhile causes such as the Our Lady of Lake Foundation, Our Lady of Mercy's "Campaign for Tomorrow", The Diocese of Baton Rouge's "Preparing for the New Millennium," and Catholic High School's Second Century of Excellence" campaign. He's also the co-host of the Children's Miracle Network's telecast, benefiting Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medial Center's Pediatric Center. He has served on numerous committees in support of the church and school including eleven yers as a school board member and as director of their Development Committee. He has also served in numerous capacities through the direction of Father Mike Moroney. Pat is also actively involved with Our Lady of Mercy's Church and School and through the direction of Father Mike Moroney he has served for 11 years in an appointed position of Mercy's School Board and as Development Director. He remains in servitude as Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Commentator for the Church. In 2003, Pat was recognized as Volunteer Activist by the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation. The Foundation recognizes members of the community that extend their time and efforts for the betterment of others and the Baton Rouge area. Pat has a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Point Park College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pat has been married to Mabyn Kean Shingleton for 25 years and they have two children, Michael, an LSU freshman, and daughter Katie a high school sophomore. |
